While the Internet has democratized guidance concerning dining options and Zagat’s has empowered diners to provide their opinions, true foodie’s and gourmand’s rely on the Michelin Guide as the Bible concerning gastronomic pursuits. Many travelers planning a visit to France during the up-coming high-season review the Michelin Guide in detail prior to travel; reservations can takes months to procure.

The number of three-star restaurants in France now stands at 26, including the Auberge du Vieux Puits in southern France, which was promoted from a two-star ranking to three stars. There are a total of 77 two-star restaurants, and 455 one-stars. Most notable, perhaps, is the recognition given to Parisian hotspot Yam’Tcha, a Franco-Chinese eatery that’s barely a year old and snagged a star. Of interest, while many consider France as the epi-center of fine dining, Tokyo has more 3-star Michelin ranked restaurants than Paris.
