Frontier Airlines will add a second Costa Rica destination on Feb. 13 with seasonal weekly nonstop service offered from Denver International Airport to Liberia.

Frontier already flies from Denver to San Jose, Costa Rica, launching that service in November 2007.

The flight will leave Denver at 8:25 a.m. on Sundays, and will return the same day at 3:25 p.m.

With the addition of the Liberia flight, Frontier will offer nonstop service to eight international destinations from Denver this winter.

We are excited to announce the first annual Luxury Real Estate Vacation Rental Conference. This conference is unlike other industry conferences and summits. Our goal is to bring like-minded leaders in the luxury vacation rental industry together in one location. We will share business practices, ideas, and efforts. We want to facilitate a time where you can learn from each other so you can thrive in your respective regions.

This conference is going to be intimate. You will meet your peers from around the world. Everyone attending is deeply involved in luxury vacation rentals. We will have a small representation of owners, a group of property managers as well as some agents. We will have some industry suppliers attending as well. However, we will not have booths or tables. The suppliers invited to this conference are going to participate and interact with everyone as well. We are only inviting suppliers that understand and work specifically with the luxury vacation rental market.

The success of the event is based on participation. We will have discussion groups on topics that you choose as well as panels that are made up of people that are doing what you do. Our goal is not to bring in hundreds of so-called experts, but rather to let you discuss, share and collaborate. After all, you are the experts. We will be asking several attendees to prepare information on various topics.

Conference Details

We hear the same for luxury vacation rentals. Seems like 2010 will finish strong…

After a near-disastrous 2009, the luxury market appears to be making a comeback, driven by growing buyer confidence, improved financing conditions and more-realistic seller pricing. Despite the housing downturn, attractively priced homes in some of the nation’s most coveted neighborhoods are selling, sometimes fast and sometimes with multiple offers. Nationwide, sales of homes selling for $2 million to $5 million in the first quarter totaled 2,461, up 32% from a year before, says CoreLogic.

Does it matter that your property can range from $500/night to $5000/night? Does a traveler who makes $350,000 a year want to throw money away? It’s not 1999 or 2006 … it’s 2010 and everyone wants a little something. Consider utilizing coupons …

Coupons don’t mean you have to give away the farm, in fact, consider giving away a turkey dinner if they book over Thanksgving or 30% off at a local restaurant. Get creative. The most important thing is give them a value.

A few facts from a recent Compete.com analysis:

Consumers who use a coupon spend more. Coupons seem to have a high ROI; the small discount consumers receive encourages them to spend money. When asked how much they spent on their most recent online purchase, consumers who used a coupon spend almost twice as much as consumers who did not use a coupon.

Coupons can increase customer satisfaction. Coupons are an effective way for retailers to build good will with their consumers. When asked about their overall shopping experience, satisfaction was higher for consumers who used a coupon than for those who did not.

Coupons can increase customer loyalty. Consumers who used a coupon said they are more likely to buy from the retailer again when compared to those who did not use a coupon. So not only will coupons encourage higher order value purchases, but they also increase that consumer’s likelihood to purchase from that retailer again.

Review the entire analysis at http://blog.compete.com/2010/06/08/coupons-are-good-for-the-bottom-line/

Last week one of the sessions at the HomeAway Owners Summit covered sales taxes for vacation rentals. Did you know nearly every vacation rental in the U.S. is required to collect and remit tax charged on the total rent collected from guests? These taxes are called sales and lodging taxes and are the same set of taxes paid by hotels. The amount of tax you need to charge your guest varies by each state, county and city. Furthermore, most states require you to obtain a sales tax license when you are providing overnight accommodations and many communities additionally require a business licenses or permit for a vacation rental.

Once you are set-up with the appropriate licenses you will typically need to file your sales and lodging tax each month or quarter, depending on the location. If you are not properly licensed or collecting and remitting the appropriate taxes you can be liable for potentially significant fines, back tax, penalties and interest.

Historically, compliance and enforcement targeting vacation rentals has been lax. However, the current economic environment has significantly impacted state and local government’s tax revenue. The need for more tax revenue combined with the significant growth of leading vacation rental websites is resulting in many communities to start focusing on vacation rentals for tax compliance.
